What a week!
As I headed back from my run this morning, I focused on the very dark clouds coming my way. I wasn't worried about getting wet, but was worried for the two outdoor events happening today (Sat. 9/25). Today is the Sugar Hill Farm CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) Pig Roast and the Local Living Festival to be held outside of Canton. I am hoping for good weather for both. These two events come on top of the GardenShare, Inc. picnic last Saturday and the upcoming benefit dinner for North Country Grown Cooperative at 1844 House on Wednesday, October 13th. Although I can't attend all of these, it is very exciting to see so much celebration, support and appreciation for local food endeavors.
We are part of the Sugar Hill Farm CSA. This means we pay a fee up front and in return receive a monthly delivery of pork and beef. The farm offers different packages so you can choose how much meat to get every month. We picked the lowest amount and find it is plenty for our family. We have chosen to pay a bit extra to have the meat delivered to our home and it is wonderful to see Renee's smiling face at the door. I love the connection between my family and Sugar Hill Farm and count myself lucky to have access to such a good product. I base many of my dinners on what is delivered for the month. I have mentioned this before, but I love choosing recipes based on what is available locally. It mixes up our menu in exciting ways.
I have not been to Sugar Hill Farm. I am excited to see the farm, the animals and connect with other people who consider local food an important part of their lifestyle. Even if you are an introvert (like me), I encourage you to attend one of the many celebrations/events going on this week and throughout the fall. I think you will walk away feeling good about attending. You don't have to stay long, enough to meet, gather and support those businesses and organizations working for local food issues.
If you would like specifics on any of these events or know of other upcoming events, please comment here.
